Classic & Volume eyelash extensions - Whats the difference?
Classic Eyelash Extensions
The method used for the Classic Eyelash Extensions is where one eyelash extension is glued onto one natural lash. This is suitable for those who have a good amount of healthy natural lashes, and have few gaps in their lash line but want more length.
Hybrid Eyelash Extensions
The method used for the Hybrid Eyelash Extensions is combining Classic and Volume Eyelash extensions. Hybrid lashes are perfect for someone who wants lashes that are a little fluffier than Classic Lashes, but not as voluminous as Volume Lashes.
Volume Eyelash Extensions
The Volume Eyelash Extensions are lighter. fluffier and give a fuller look. They are ideal for those who have spars lashes and have bald areas or gaps in their lashes or just want much thicker, longer more glamorous lashes.
These lash extensions are applied in either 2D, 3D, 4D or 5D.
“2D” means that each extension is a flair made of 2 individual extensions which are applied to one natural lash, and ” on means the extension is a flair made of 5 individual extensions which are applied to one of your natural lashes.
The weight of one classic lash and a “5D” lash flair is the same. Volume eyelash extension flairs are made with significantly thinner lashes than what a Classic lash extension is.
Diamond Silk Lashes
Diamond Silk Lashes are the best silk eyelashes on the market. They are designed for a glossier and more elastic look. They have an ultra-soft feel to the touch and are more flexible than conventional lashes. Because they are softer and more porous, they tend to last slightly longer than ordinary synthetic lashes.
At MG Professional we DO NOT use Mink eyelash extensions as they are made from animal hair and are therefore more prone to cause allergic reactions than Diamond Silk extensions. We are all animal lovers here and will NEVER harm an animal.

How it is done?
Arrive for your appointment without any eye makeup. mascara, or oil-based lotion around the eye area. Remove your contact lenses. Remember you will have your eyes closed for about 2 hours.
Your eyes will be cleansed again and prepped to ensure that there is no makeup or oil residue left before the procedure commences.
Once your eyes are sparkly clean, a gel pad will be applied to the under-eye area to cover your lower lashes. Then the application of your new lashes will begin.
The lash extensions will be applied to each individual eyelash using two lash tweezers. One tweezer will separate the natural lashes and isolate one lash, while the second one will take the lash extension. dip it into the lash adhesive and place it on top of the isolated lash held by the first tweezers. This will be the process for the next two hours.
Next, you will feel a small fan air drying your lashes and a mascara wand brushing through your lashes. This means your new lashes are ready and when you open your eyes you can admire them.
Lastly a Lash Extension Sealant can be applied if you are doing Classic Lashes. For this procedure you will need to sit upright so it can be applied like you would a normal Mascara, and to prevent it from running into your eyes.
How to care for your new lashes
To make sure your lashes look their best for as long as possible take care to not get them wet for the first 24 hours. The moisture will result in the lash glue over-curing and becoming brittle and your extensions will fall Off within a few days.
Thereafter, you should clean them gently with a soft brush and a special lash cleaner/warm water every second day to prevent a build-up of bacteria, light dirt and also help good retention.
STEP BY STEP: How to clean eyelash extensions
- Wet your lashes with warm water.
- Use a gentle, oil-free, alcohol-free cleanser – such as a foaming face cleanser, facial soap or baby shampoo – and work it GENTLY into your lashes and over your eyelids.
- Use an up-and-down motion so you don’t tug at your eyelashes and concentrate on the lash line as this is where dirt and bacteria can build up.
- Rinse with warm water.
- It’s best to let them dry naturally. Occasionally, you could give each eyelashes set a 10-second gentle blast of cold air from your hairdryer – but don’t do this too often as it could affect the adhesive. (Let’s say, do this once a week)
- Comb your eyelash extensions Out with a clean mascara brush. (I do give all my clients one after every lash appointment)
Keep oil-based products away from your extensions and brush them regularly to keep them looking neat, tidy and uniform.
DO not pick at them as this will result in the loss Of your natural lashes. If you need them removed, contact us & have a professional take them Off.
Do not apply mascara or eyeliner to your extension or upper eyelid as it cannot be safely cleaned and will create a breeding ground for bacteria.
Like all living things, your lashes grow and have a lifespan. so you’ll find that you need a ‘maintenance appointment’ or a ‘lash fill’ every 2 to 3 weeks.
How to maintain eyelash extensions
- Oil is the nemesis of the eyelashes’ bonding agent – so keep your eyelash extensions oil-free. That means avoiding moisturising shampoo and conditioners, so shield your eyes while washing your hair.
- Don’t rub your eyes. Needless to say, this could loosen or make your lashes fall out.
- Avoid cream eyeshadows and liquid eyeliner.
- Be careful when removing makeup. Makeup wipes or any material that could tug at the lashes are best avoided. Try applying an oil-free makeup remover such as Micellar Cleansing Water with your finger, then gently blot with a damp cleansing cloth
Safety
Eyelash extensions are safe to use, as they are applied to the natural eyelashes and do not touch the skin. Correctly applied, eyelash extensions will not cause breakage of natural lashes. They will, however, fall out when the natural eyelash they are attached to has completed its life cycle, which is normally 6 to 8 weeks.
Other reasons your eyelash extensions may not last is if you wet your lashes less than 24 hours after you’ve acquired your new lashes. if there’s a change in your hormone levels, increased stress. seasonal allergies, crying. prescription medication, excessive rubbing of the eyes, washing face and lashes with cleansers containing glycol or oil and sleeping on your face.
In the event that you are worried that the glue may get into your eyes, you will be keeping your eyes closed for the duration of the procedure, so it is unlikely you will ever be experiencing this. Just take the time to lay back, relax and look forward to the beautiful end result.
If you do experience any burning or discomfort during the procedure causing your eyes to water, speak up. You may be a little sensitive or have an allergy towards the glue.
